Privacy

The short version

Gist reads your health data on your iPhone and does the math there. There is no Gist server, so nothing is uploaded, collected, or stored anywhere else. No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no account.

What Gist reads

Gist asks Apple Health for read-only access to the data it scores:

• Sleep data (duration, deep and REM stages)
• Activity data (steps, distance, exercise time, energy burned, flights climbed, stand hours)
• Heart data (resting heart rate, heart rate variability, walking heart rate, respiratory rate, average heart rate)
• Body data (VO2 max, walking speed, walking steadiness, BMI and body fat if available)
• Date of birth (to calculate chronological age)

What Gist does with it

Gist scores each metric against its optimal range, averages the categories, and adds the result to your birth date. All of that runs on the phone. Nobody at Gist can see any of it, because it never leaves the device.

What Gist keeps on the phone

Gist stores these on your device and nowhere else:

• Your birth date (for age calculation)
• Your weekly Gist Age history (up to 52 weeks)
• A short-lived cache of your latest health metrics (about an hour) so the app opens quickly
• A small snapshot of your latest Gist Age, trend, and score so the home screen and lock screen widgets can display it
• App preferences and trial status

It lives in the app's own iOS storage, shared only with Gist's widgets, and goes away when you delete the app. Your own iPhone backups may include it, the same as any app's data. No Gist server ever receives it.

What Gist does not collect

• No personal identifiers
• No analytics, crash reporting, or tracking
• No advertisements
• No selling or sharing of data, because there is none to share
• No account or login
• No internet connection required, except for the App Store when you purchase or restore

HealthKit

Apple forbids using HealthKit data for advertising or passing it to third parties, and Gist does neither. The only thing Gist does with HealthKit data is compute your Gist Age.

Purchases

Gist has a free 3-day trial, then a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple handles the purchase through the App Store. Gist never sees payment details. It stores one thing, whether you have bought it, and you can restore that on any device signed in to the same Apple Account.

Your controls

You can cut off Gist's Health access at any time in Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Health, then Gist. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

Children

Gist is not for children under 13. It collects no data from anyone, children included.
